What is Psychometry?

What is Psychometry?

In this post, we’ll take an introductory look at the psychic ability of psychometry and answer the question, “What is psychometry?”

Psychometry is the psychic ability that allows one to read the energy of an object. Some esoteric groups, such as the Rosicrucian Order and Golden Dawn, refer to this as “vibroturgy” because it involves connecting with the vibrations surrounding an object. Everyone naturally uses psychometry, often without realizing it.

A common example of psychometry in everyday life is when we go shopping. As we browse items that interest us, we pick them up and get a specific feeling about them. We often buy an item if it feels good or right. For instance, you might pick up a new comedy DVD, glance at it, read the back, and think, “This seems pretty funny.” When you take it home, you’ll likely find that your intuition was correct. The reverse can also happen – if an item doesn’t feel right, it probably won’t meet your expectations. While we’re not always 100% accurate, our natural hunches and feelings are usually spot-on.

How Does Psychometry Work?

Objects retain energy and memories from the people and places they’ve come into contact with, like an energy imprint. A psychic can link into this energy to read the object’s history and memories, which may present as emotions, images, sounds, or even scents. The reader never knows exactly how the information will come through.

Often, when someone brings an object for a psychometry reading, they’re more interested in learning about the object’s former owner than the object itself. In this case, the psychic can “surf” the energy link from the object to its owner. For this to work, there must be a strong connection between the person and the object. A military dog tag, for instance, will yield more insights than a random penny from someone’s pocket.

When working with objects tied to violent situations, readers must take extra precautions and mentally prepare for what they might encounter. Picking up a jacket worn by someone who was murdered, for example, can be a shocking experience if the reader is caught off guard.

Since vibrations and memories can linger on objects for a long time, it’s important to be mindful when shopping for antiques or pre-owned items. Wearing clothing that was worn by someone else for an extended period may cause you to take on that person’s behaviors or thoughts. If an item doesn’t feel good, it’s best not to wear it or bring it into your home.

Energy clearing techniques used for spaces can also be applied to objects. Clearing an item eliminates negative vibrations but doesn’t erase the associated memories, which can still be accessed by a skilled psychometrist. Removing a memory completely requires magical skills beyond the scope of this lesson.

Clearing Objects

There are several ways to clear objects of negative vibrations and excess energy:

  1. Running water: If the object is waterproof, let running water cascade over it to wash away excess energy, similar to washing your hands.
  2. Smudging: Burn herbs like sage or incense (particularly from the tree family, such as pine or cedar) to clear negative vibrations.
  3. Salt: Fill a bowl with sea salt or kosher salt and place the object in it for a moment to cleanse it. This method can also be used to clear your hands.
  4. Crystals: Hematite and black onyx help cleanse objects. Hold the stones or place them in contact with the item. Add a clear quartz crystal to amplify the cleansing effect.

How to Perform Psychometry

Before attempting psychometry, use your psychic protections and relaxation ritual. Once protected and relaxed, take three deep breaths and pick up the object you want to read.

Close your eyes and visualize a color. When you can see or feel the color clearly, imagine yourself going through it to merge deeply with the object. Once merged, check in with yourself to ensure you feel safe before proceeding.

Take a deep breath and exhale gently. As you exhale, imagine yourself going into the object, paying attention to everything you see and feel. These are the item’s memories.

Ask yourself questions to guide the session, such as:

  • What is this object’s best memory?
  • What’s this object’s worst memory?
  • Who was the last person connected to this object?
  • What did they look like?
  • Who was important to them?
  • Where did they live or work?
  • Has this object been in more than one location?
  • What were its other locations like?
  • How does the object feel currently?
  • How does the last person connected to the object feel?
  • What does the future look like for the last person connected to the object?

Trust your inner guide and see what your mind brings to you. When you’re done, break the link by shaking your hands and ground the energy by putting your hands on the floor or washing them.

If possible, verify the information you received about the object and the last person connected to it to gauge your accuracy. Sometimes, you may pick up on the person most strongly associated with the item rather than the last person who touched it. Be open to corrections and let them help you and your subconscious mind learn and grow.
