Seven Free Lessons in Psychic Development – Lesson 7: Scrying

What is the Psychic Tool of Scrying?

Scrying, more commonly known as crystal ball gazing, is the process of looking deep into an object and allowing images to form that provide information to you about the past, present, or most commonly the future.

All of us have done scrying at some point and time in our life. Do you ever remember being outside on a nice summer or spring day and looking up at the clouds? Do you remember how as you gazed at the clouds they started turning into shapes and how those shapes began to take the form of images?

“I see a dragon!” “I see a baseball.” When we saw these images, that was a type of scrying and a type that you can still practice and work with to this day. In fact, I want to encourage you to practice scrying into the clouds before you decide to move on to some of the other scrying tools which we’ll be talking about in this last lesson.

How Does Scrying Work?

When we scry we are tapping into subconscious symbols which provide us with information. If you don’t know how to interpret a symbol right now that is okay. Just write the symbols that you see down. Later you can go to a dream book/dictionary and look up the meaning of the symbols. Consider what the symbol may be saying to you.

Of course, before we actually sit down to do any scrying where we are going to be asking our guides for answers, we should perform our protections that have been previously outlined. We should also invoke our guides to be present with us during the process. We also should have either a recorder on hand or paper and pen so that we can write down both the question(s) we are asking along with the images that appeared while scrying on that question.

Once we have finished our session, we should thank our guides and then go about researching the symbols that were presented to us so that we can understand the information we have been given. This is a very important thing to do, as later your guides will be giving you information through symbols. The better you work to learn the meaning of symbols now, the easier your communication process with them will be in the future.

Not All Scrying is Symbolic

I should make mention that scrying isn’t always symbolic. There are times when you will receive actual visual images of what is going to happen or what has happened. A good example of this was when I saw the large building being crashed into via an airplane. That was a month prior to 9/11. My question had simply been: “Tell me something important about what’s going to come in the next few months.” Of course back then I didn’t know that’s what was being referenced, and this is the reason why it’s important to keep good notes on everything you see during a particular scrying session.

What Are Some Scrying Tools?

Besides clouds there are other objects that can be used to successfully scry. These include:

  • The White of an Egg
  • Tea Leaves
  • Water and Food Coloring
  • Water in General
  • Bubbles
  • Ink Blotches (Yes, the Rochester Inkblot Test can be used to scry!)
  • Mud
  • Mirrors
  • Crystal Balls (The most well known and popular item to use)
  • Glass
  • Rocks
  • Another Person’s Eyes (My personal favorite!).

Of course, someone that has been doing scrying for a while can scry into almost anything, but the objects mentioned here tend to be some of the easier ones for a beginning student to work with.

The important thing is that once you have found something which works for you it’s a good idea to not change it. You will need to spend some time working with it to build energy around it. The more you work with it, the better the results are going to be in the future.

Learning How to Scry

So how does one effectively scry?

Well, the best way to do it is in a dark room or a place with low lighting. The exception is when you are working with the clouds, then almost any type of lighting is appropriate. You’ll also want to make sure you aren’t going to be disturbed as you’re scrying, as that’s a sure fire way to not get anything or, worse, get misleading information.

Clear yourself, ground yourself, use all your protections, invoke your guides, and then do a progressive relaxation and light meditation to help yourself get into that alpha state, the state of mind when you are going to be able to perform scrying the best.

After you have opened your eyes, take some time to look into the object you are scrying into and simply gaze at it. Don’t stare, rather allow your eyes to soft focus just as though you were attempting to see an aura. Be patient. It can sometimes take a while for images to begin to form.

Also, don’t forget to ask a question prior to scrying, otherwise your guides won’t know how to best direct the images to you or even which images/symbols might be best to help answer that question.

Anything you see should be noted. It doesn’t matter if it’s an image, a color, a flash of light, anything may be important. Keep careful notes.

After about 15 or 20 minutes you should stop. You don’t want to get too lost or even frustrated with scrying. You can always try again another day or at another time. Do allow some time between scrying sessions for your eyes and mind to rest. Also, don’t forget to thank your guides, no matter what the results may have been.

Summary

Again, scrying really isn’t hard to do, it’s just a matter of practice and patience. It’s a great way to develop your clairvoyant ability and to start learning to work with your guides on your own personal symbolic language. This is a language that you started working on a long time ago when you began doing dream interpretations.
