The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram

One of the most common requests from visitors to my site and in my psychic self defense class deals with people wanting to know a more advanced method of psychic protection magic. The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, also called the LBRP, is a protection spell to drive away negativity.

The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is a spell from the practice of protection magic that is used to push negative energy away from you and to send it back to whoever was sending it out. It is an advanced magick ritual, though typically one of the first advanced rituals (if not THE first) that a student of the magick arts tends to learn.

As with all magick rituals you should be calm, emotionally stable, and mentally focused prior to attempting to work with the LBRP protection spell.

Please note as you move forward that there are many variations of what you are about to read. All of them likely right. Understand that as a magick practitioner develops, so too do they develop their own style. The following comes from the style which I have personally developed for myself.

Part One of the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram

The Cabbalistic Cross

The first part of the LBRP is called the cabbalistic cross. You will be chanting some Hebrew words throughout the Ritual of the Pentagram

Still facing East, use an athame (or your pointer finger and middle finger together) to make a cross over your forehead. An athame is a small dagger with the sole purpose of being used to direct energy during magick rituals.

You will be making other crosses during the cabbalistic cross. Each time, the cross should be created by going from top to bottom and right to left.  As you do this over the forehead, chant “Ah-Toe.”

Now make a cross over your chest.  This time you will chant “Mal-Kuth.”

Make a cross over your right shoulder. As you do this chant “Vee-Ga-Bor-Ah.”

Finally, make a cross over your left shoulder. Chant “Vee-Ged-Uh-Lah.”

Now cross your arms over your chest. Chant. “Le-Oh-Lham, Amen.”

What you are saying with these words is in essence “Thy is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, Forever. I do believe.”

This part of the LBRP opens your crown center and throat center while protecting the heart center. It also begins to flow a powerful channel of Higher or God force energy through the body.

Part Two of the LBRP

The Banishing of Negative Energy

For the second part of the ritual you’ll be drawing either a pentagram (as the name traditionally implies), or a cross.

Many people are not comfortable drawing a pentagram due to misconceptions they have consciously and subconsciously picked up from pop culture. I never force someone to draw a pentagram. In every magick act there is always more than one way to implement the energy. In this case, if a person is not comfortable drawing a banishing pentagram, then they should draw a cross in a similar manner described in part one.

Those who do wish to draw a pentagram need to know the difference between the banishing pentagram and the invoking pentagram. The banishing pentagram is traditionally drawn by starting at your left hip. Draw a line from there to the top of your head. Draw a line from the top of your head to your right hip. Draw a line from your right hip to the left shoulder. Draw a line from the left shoulder straight across to the right shoulder. Finish by drawing a line from the right shoulder to your left hip.

Now that we know how to draw the banishing pentagram we are going to use it in each of the cardinal directions. As you draw it you will also be chanting.

Draw the banishing pentagram while facing east and chant with power “Yod-Hey-Vow-Hey.” As you finish thrust your fingers or athame straight forward with force. You should visualize the pentagram while drawing it (or cross) and visualize a force of power thrusting all energy away from you when you thrust your athame/fingers forward. You’ll do this thrust and visualization with each direction.

Thus when we turn south we will do the same visualizations, however we will chant with power “Eh-Hi-Ah.”

Turn West. Draw the pentagram and thrust while chanting “Ad-Oh-Nie.”

Finally turn North. Draw the pentagram and thrust while chanting “Ah-Glah.”

Now, return to the East and draw the pentagram once in silence.

What you are saying here are various Hebrew names for God. What you are doing is pushing all negative energy away from you and sending it back to where it has come from.

Part Three of the LBRP

Invocation of the Angels

While facing the East, raise your hands and chant… “Before me Raphael.” As you do this visualize an angel with a staff flying before you.

After you finish that visualization, chant… “Behind me Gabriel.” As you chant this visualize an angel standing in a body of water holding a scroll behind you.

“On my right hand Michael.” Visualize an angel with a flaming sword, surrounded by fire and in armor, on your right side.

“On my left hand Uriel.” Visualize an angel standing on a mountain holding scales on your left side.

Finish the chant in one of two ways.

The traditional way, if you’ve chosen to work with the pentagram, is “For about me flames the pentagram and within me shines the sixed ray start.”

The optional way for those opting to use the cross is “For about me flames the holy cross and within me shines the power of God.”

This in effect summons the angels and lets them know that they should continue to watch over and protect you in the upcoming days.

Part Four of the LBRP

To finish the ritual you should repeat part one.

Once you are totally finished spend a few minutes observing how you feel as you’ve now effectively not only eliminated negative energy and sent it back to where it came, but you have also cleared your aura and created a safe space around you that should follow you wherever you go for the next 24 hours.

I normally recommend to my students to do this either every evening before bed or ever morning upon waking up. Additionally, anytime a person feels overwhelmed they should take a time out and go perform the ritual.
